Although powder rooms are typically small spaces and often built more with utility in mind than style, they are a frequently visited space in any home by both owners and guests. Each year, entrants in the Decorating and Design Competition get to show off their fresh ideas for improving living spaces at every budget. These three powder rooms were named the best powder rooms designed in 2017 by DDA Canada members. Take a look!

"Elegant Suburban Powder Room"

Powder Rm 1a Powder Rm 1b

The client is a savvy professional couple who wanted a powder room that ‘wowed’ their guests and moved them to feel special whilst in the space. We chose a beautiful mahogany grass cloth for texture, designed an elegant marble waterfall counter and included exotic Macassar ebony drawers. Brushed gold hardware adds that touch of glamour to the space. Adding black and white photography personally shot by the designer as a housewarming gift on the walls gives this room a sophisticated and elegant flair.

"Reclaimed Elegance"

Beauty is established through the layering of rich colours, textures and lighting. With such a small space, every selection made counts and though we used a variety of different finishes, they all coordinate well together. We took a basic builder washroom and turned it into a warm, contemporary and inviting powder room. Textured grass cloth wallpaper and unique herringbone marble tile add interest while the reclaimed barn wood vanity is the focal point. Soft lighting emitted from the sconces set a cozy ambience. Overall, we transformed a small space to have a big impact!

"Classic Meets Modern"

Powder Rm 3aPowder Rm 3b

This clients’ home is a balance of classical influences interpreted in a modern and fun way. The powder room is no exception; the bold floral paper, textures, and touches of glamour are classic yet whimsical. The biggest challenge was making this space feel elevated and cohesive with the rest of the home, due to the close proximity to the mudroom. We chose to use the same flooring and millwork finish in the Powder Room and Mudroom to unify the two spaces.
