#1 A Decorating Idea that Can’t be Overlooked – Refresh Your Home With a Seasonal Colour Palette

Autumn colours are rich and bold, with lots of reds and oranges, but they also have a lot of browns and greens that can be incorporated into your existing colour palette. If you don’t want to make too much of a commitment, try a small accent piece like a throw pillow or lampshade in one of these colours.

#2 Switch-up your textiles

The air is crisp and the light is low. Make your home more comfortable and warm by exchanging your summer textiles for richer and thicker fabrics. Linen pillows can be swapped for velvet, and light-weight throws can be exchanged for faux fur. Add the final touch of laying down a thicker piled rug to keep your feet warm!

#3 Refresh With Candles

You can make your house smell wonderful by lighting scented candles throughout the house. Try pumpkin spice, apple cider, or even fresh-cut grass scents—and if you really want to go all out, try making your own candles with our DIY guide!

#4 Create a Centrepiece

Centrepieces are one of our favourite decorating ideas for adding some seasonal flair to your table settings, but they don’t have to be elaborate or expensive! Just gather some pumpkins, gourds or other autumnal fruits/flowers and arrange them in a basket or vase—you’ll be ready for Thanksgiving in no time!

#5 Turn on the Fireplace

Fall is a time to get cozy, and what better way to do that than with the roaring fire of your fireplace? Make use of your mantelpiece and add accents such as lights, candles, or seasonal foliage. Fall is also a great time to refresh the style of this focal point of your home. Consider refinishing the texture, colour, or design of your fireplace and enjoy it throughout the fall and winter seasons.

If you don’t have a fireplace, you can still make your home feel like a cozy fall retreat. Turn on the heat and turn off the lights! The dark will help create an atmosphere of relaxation as you snuggle up on the couch with a hot cup of cocoa.

#6 Add a few decorative pumpkins

If you’re looking for a way to bring the outdoors inside, look no further than decorative pumpkins. There are so many different types of pumpkins to choose from: big, small; orange, white; round, squishy. You can use them as part of a table centrepiece or scatter them around your space for an easy way to add some fall flair.

#7 Get crafty

Beyond pumpkins, there are many additional decorative elements that evoke autumn. Try your hand at using fall leaves to create a centrepiece or garland, or incorporate dried grasses into a bouquet. Get outdoors (or to your local craft shop) to gather pine cones that can be used as decorative accents throughout your home. Can’t say goodbye to summer just yet? Sunflowers make for a perfect transition piece between the two seasons.

#8 Don’t forget the bed and bath

It can be easy to get caught up with decorating and preparing the shared spaces in your home for fall, but don’t forget to treat yourself to autumnal vibes in your private spaces too! Simple touches like adding a cozy fall-coloured throw, or accent pillows with rich fabrics can make a big difference for your bed. An easy swap of bathroom towels and bathmat to warm colours will help carry the fall feeling throughout your entire home.

#9 A Warm Welcome

Set the theme early and prep your home’s entrance for the new season. Decorate the space with lanterns, candles, and small touches wherever you see fit. Don’t forget the practical elements either – add a durable rug or doormat to withstand fall boots and more inclement weather.

#10 Bring the inside…out!

Now that the interior of your home is ready for fall, it’s time to carry the theme out to your front exterior. Hang a fall wreath or drape a garland around your front door. Update your planters with fall flowers such as chrysanthemums and coneflowers. Small and inexpensive touches such as these can make a big impact.
