DDA Canada is the most influential association for decorators and design industry professionals in Canada. We foster the growth of our industry by connecting professionals, students and suppliers. We also help members prosper by offering year-round training, business growth resources and networking events.

Kitchens and Bathrooms projects may only be entered in the Kitchen or Bathroom categories. Students may only enter the Student Category with one submission. Accredited Members may submit up to three entries and each submission may only be entered in one category.

Accredited Member Categories

All entries should include before and after pictures of the project. Where construction was involved before-and-after floor plans and a brief description of the work is required.

Kitchen under $50,000 (excl. appliances)
This category is for residential kitchen renovation or new kitchen construction that involves the decorator's original design concept. For example: moving walls, replacing cabinets and countertops, flooring, electrical, etc. The entrant must be involved in the design and planning stages through to project completion. The entry must include dimensioned floor plans that can be computer generated or hand drawn.

Kitchen over $50,000 (excl. appliances)
This category is for residential kitchen renovation or new kitchen construction that involves the decorator's original design concept. For example: moving walls, replacing cabinets and countertops, flooring, electrical, etc. The entrant must be involved in the design and planning stages through to project completion. The entry must include dimensioned floor plans that can be computer generated or hand drawn.

Bathroom under $30,000 
This category is for residential bathroom renovation or new bathroom construction that involves the decorator's original design concept. For example: moving walls, replacing cabinets and countertops, flooring, electrical, etc. The entrant must be involved in the design and planning stages through to project completion. The entry must include dimensioned floor plans that can be computer generated or hand drawn.

Bathroom over $30,000 
This category is for residential bathroom renovation or new bathroom construction that involves the decorator's original design concept. For example: moving walls, replacing cabinets and countertops, flooring, electrical, etc. The entrant must be involved in the design and planning stages throuto project completion. The entry must include dimensioned floor plans that can be computer generated or hand drawn.

Powder Room (No $ value limit)
This category is for residential powder room or new powder room construction that involves the decorator's original design concept.  For example: moving walls, replacing cabinets and countertops, flooring, electrical, etc. The entrant must be involved in the design and planning stages through to project completion. The entry must include dimensioned floor plans that can be computer generated or hand drawn.

Interior Decoration without construction  $10,000 - 45,000 NEW

Entries in this category demonstrate interior decoration without construction, built-in cabinetry is allowed. No kitchens or bathrooms.

Interior Decoration with construction under $45,000

Entries in this category demonstrate interior decoration with construction. Kitchens or bathrooms may be in the images as part of the overall project but not focussed on.

Interior Decoration over $45,000 and under $100,000
Entries in this category demonstrate interior decoration with or without construction. Kitchens or bathrooms may be in the images as part of the overall project but not focussed on.

Interior Decoration over $100,000
Entries in this category demonstrate interior decoration with or without construction.  Kitchens or bathrooms may be in the images as part of the overall project but not focussed on.

Challenging Budget under $10.000
Entries in this category demonstrate interior decoration with or without construction. Examples of projects in this category could be room makeovers, creative cupboard designs, home staging, and so on.  No kitchen, bath or powder room projects permitted in this category.  

Universal Kitchen or Bath Design NEW 

Entries in this category will demonstrate the use of the 7 Principles in Universal Design within a kitchen or bath project. The entrant must be involved in the design and planning stages through to project completion.  The entry must include dimensioned floor plans that can be computer generated or hand drawn.

Commercial

This category is for commercial renovation or new construction that involves the member’s original design concept.  This category is for any commercial space including offices, studios, restaurants, spas, salons, retail, common areas, hospitality etc.  The entrant must be involved in the design and planning stages through to project completion. The entry must include dimensioned floor plans that can be computer generated or hand drawn.

Pinnacle Winner NEW

This award is for the accredited member who has been voted the best from the top 3 winners in each of the 13 categories by their peers and the general public.

Student Categories

Universal Kitchen or Bath Design NEW

Entries in this category will demonstrate the use of the 7 Principles in Universal Design within a kitchen or bath project. The entry must include dimensioned floor plans that can be computer generated or hand drawn.

Students may enter one project in this category. This may either be classroom or real-life projects but the entry must follow the specific rules for a student entry. All Students enrolled in DDA’s recognized programs are eligible to enter. Entry fees are waived for Students who are members of DDA.  

Each entry consists of up to ten pictures (jpg format) and a design statement that will have a maximum 550 words. For an accurate evaluation of your education and skill level, the pictures should include the following:

  • Digital Design Sample Board
  • Dimensioned floor plans and elevations.
  • 3D renderings

Drawings may either be drawn by hand or by using a computer program. (If you are using a computer program be sure to save the drawing in jpg format.) You may also enhance your entries with other drawings and pictures as you wish.

Please ensure that your images are legible as they cannot be expanded or zoomed during the judging process.


General Student Project

Students may enter one project in this category. This may either be classroom or real-life projects but the entry must follow the specific rules for a student entry. All Students enrolled in DDA’s recognized programs are eligible to enter. Entry fees are waived for Students who are members of DDA.

Each entry consists of up to ten pictures (jpg format) and a design statement that will have a maximum 550 words. For an accurate evaluation of your education and skill level, the pictures should include the following:

  • Digital Design Sample Board
  • Floor Plan (colour rendered)
  • Elevations (colour rendered; provide as many as required to explain the project space)
  • Floor Plan with overall room dimensions and ceiling heights indicated (not to be combined with the rendered Floor Plan)

Drawings may either be drawn by hand or by using a computer program. (If you are using a computer program be sure to save the drawing in jpg format.) You may also enhance your entries with other drawings and pictures as you wish. 

Please ensure that your images are legible as they cannot be expanded or zoomed during the judging process.
